Cherry Blossom Celebration

May 19, 2015 @ 11:30 am - 12:30 pm

FREE

Come celebrate the cherry blossoms on the cherry tree at Post Office Park (on Middle St between Market St & Exchange Street) in Portland. This is a free, public event. There will be Taiko drummers to start event, several guest speakers, and a cherry juice toast.

Mayor Michael Brennan, who wanted to plant the tree last year after returning from a trip to Japan, will talk about the Shinagawa Sister City Relationship, his connection to Japan, and the cherry tree. City arborist, Jeff Tarling, will talk about how the cherry tree weathered this past winter and it’s future. And Jeff Sandler will talk about Friends of Shinagawa & JASM. A celebratory toast of cherry juice will be offered to all who would like to join in.
