JASM Spring Feast

Welcome in Spring with a delightful Japanese Feast at Benkay Restaurant on India Street in Portland Maine. It’s JASM’s Spring Feast celebration, a wonderful dining event on Saturday, May 13, 2017 at 3:00-5:00pm.

JASM members and friends are invited to join together for fun, laughter, and a very delicious meal prepared by Benkay’s Chef Ando for the Japan America Society of Maine.

Cost per person is $40 for JASM Members and $50 for non-members. JASM will cover the gratuity. Alcoholic beverages are extra. (Please bring cash or a check made payable to “JASM” to the restaurant).

To reserve your place, please RSVP for Spring Feast by Wednesday, May 10th so Chef Ando knows how many meals to plan for.

JASM Ramen Fest (*SOLD OUT as of 3/10*)

Join JASM on Sunday, March 19th, 2017 at Ramen Suzukiya, 229 Congress St, Portland, for an appreciation of ramen that we’re calling Ramen Fest.

Ramen Suzukiya is normally closed on Sundays, but will be open on this special Sunday for our Ramen Fest event.

We’ll start the evening by watching the ramen centric movie, Ramen Girl, and then with a renewed sense of appreciation for ramen, we will eat some of Portland’s finest, prepared by Chef Suzuki.

Cost is $20 for JASM Members – JASM will cover the gratuity; alcoholic beverages are extra.

Japanese kadomatsu

2017 Oshogatsu Celebration

Our annual New Year Celebration, Oshogatsu, is planned for January 28th, 2017 (with a SNOW DATE of February 4th), at the Unitarian Universalist Church, 524 Allen Ave, Portland, from 4:00-9:00pm. Please join us for mochi making, live taiko drumming, a potluck dinner (please bring something to share), Japanese bingo, and friendship.

Cost is $5 for JASM Members, $15 for guests, $5 for students, and children under 12 are free.

JASM Bonenkai, End-of-the-Year Feast

Cost Per Person: $35 for JASM members, $45 for non-members

JASM will cover gratuity. Drinks are not included.

Treat yourself to a Japanese feast specially prepared by Chef Matsuyama, for the Japan America Society of Maine membership. It’s JASM’s Bonenkai  (Forget the Year) celebration, and JASM members and friends are invited to join together for fun, laughter, and a very delicious meal.

To reserve your place, please RSVP by Tuesday, 12/6 so Chef Matsuyama knows how many dinners to plan for.

Kokedama (Japanese Moss Balls) Class

Skillins Greenhouses in Falmouth is having a Kokedama (Japanese hanging moss garden) class on Saturday, November 12th, at 2pm in Falmouth. Create two to bring home!

Originating in Japan, kokedama are the combination of a living plant and moss. In this hands-on workshop you will create, not one but two of your own beautiful kokedama to take home!

Class fee is $30, and space is limited so contact Skillins to sign up in advance!
