City Hall Plaza, which welcomes visitors to the main entrance of Portland’s City Hall, is known for its many spectacular cherry trees. They bloom once a year and are simply beautiful.
To celebrate their splendor, JASM members and friends are encouraged to join us on, Friday, April 28, from 11:45am to 1:00pm to celebrate “CHERRY FEST” at Portland City Hall.
Portland has strong ties to Japan through its Japanese sister city of Shinagawa. In Japan, viewing the blossoming Cherry trees is cause for a holiday celebration.
Here in Portland, the blossoming cherry trees will feature an EARTH DAY appreciation to be given by Mayor Ethan Strimling.
City of Portland Arborist, Jeff Tarling, will also be on hand to pay tribute to and explain Portland’s wonderful cherry trees.
Adding to the celebration will be Japanese musicians, featuring an exciting Taiko Drumming performance by Portland based Taiko Maine Dojo.
As the event takes place during lunch hours, Mami Japanese Food Truck will have Japanese food available for purchase.
Please make every effort to join us in support of this event!
